Sports Centers and Sports Meet

We identify, train, and promote the potential sports talent among the Tribals. VKK conducts sports meets in different tribal areas to identify sportsmen and encourage sports. Athletes from the tribal areas are selected through these local sports centers and local sports meets.

Vanavasi Kreeda Mahostsava is a government of India sponsored program conducted by Vanavasi Kalyan on all India basis for every four years. Young Vanavasi athletes, both boys and girls from all over the country participate in this annual event.

First all India meet was held in Indore, and was inaugurated by the “Flying Sikh” Sri Milka Singh. Fourth All India Vanavasi Sports Meet was held at Ranchi, Jharkand.

Officials of All India Olympic Association and other national level sports organizations are invited to observe these meets. Every year dozens of athletes are selected for formal coaching in the national sports promotion institutions.

The Olympian archer Sri Limba Ram is one such talent from the Vanavasi hostel at Rajasthan, and was selected by SAI in one of these meets. Many more Limba Rams are awaiting to be spotted.

In addition, these centers are helpful in keeping the tribal youths fit and also keep them away from the usual social evils like alcohols and gambling. There are 4 such sports centers in Chamarajnagar district.
